Tourism is one of the leading sectors of our country’s economy. The areas, that have been established as tourist areas, are characterized by a relatively strong economy and a high standard of living. As world experience shows, the network of protected areas creates the best basis for the development of various fields of tourism. The paper discusses the tourism potential and planning of one of the regions of Georgia – Kakheti protected areas, it presents the role of geography as a sience in this process. Chapter I discusses the world experience, which gives us examples of forecasting, putting the right emphases and problem solving. The paper presents the methodology of planning tourist routes. The theory of geographical nodes is presented, also it’s role in the development of tourism and several geographical nodes in the study area are identified. The paper also describes new tourist routes for the protected areas of Kakheti. Problems that are hindering factor for the development of tourism are discussed, such as – unnamed geographical objects, depreciated roads, lack of tourist infrastructure. Field and camera research methods have been used to create the paper. Several tables and thematic maps were created to better understand the presented information. The paper presents the GPS coordinates of objects on new routes. We think that this paper will help develop tourism in the protected areas of Kakheti, which, in turn, will help improve the economic situation of the local population.
