Separation of enantiomers of chiral compound’s is very important due to fact, that often enantiomers have different physiological effect. High-performance liquid chromatography is most widely used method for separation of enantiomers. Despite the fact, that there are described many chiral stationary phases, still it is not easy task to find a chiral selector capable to separate wide range of compounds. Polysaccharide based chiral selectors are mostly used to prepare chiral stationary phases. In this work the advantages of superficially porous stationary phases (core-shell) over traditional fully porous phases are described. It is shown, how efficient and fast separation of enantiomers can be performed. Experimental results, performed on core-shell type chiral stationary phases, tables and van-Deemter plots demonstrate that it is possible to perform superfast separations without significant loss of separation efficiency. In this study we report also the CSP obtained by covalent immobilization of a polysaccharide-type chiral selector onto the surface of superficially porous silica particles. The applicability of this CSP for the separation of enantiomers in pure methanol and acetonitrile, as well as in n-hexane/2-propanol mobile phases is shown.
